Sweet, Summer Dreams

If you believe, as I do, that the first step into any successful venture is in some way deciding to just do it, then this might be the best time to ask yourself what that could be...

I have learned, through many and varied experiences, that deciding that something is going to happen is the best way to make it so. Do you want to write a book? Then start writing! The best way to learn what you need to know, is to figure out what you don't know how to do - and take appropriate steps.

Summer is here. In Wisconsin that means fresh, lovely mornings and voracious evening mosquitoes - especially after that record breaking winter. But it also means relaxed meals on the deck, delectable grilled food, and a more relaxed attitude toward just about everything, even if in some ways the schedule is frenetic. From getting everyone to and from half-day camps and sleepovers, to navigating movie schedules and friends' calendars, summer has its own funny rhythm, but in the midst of the craziness is a subtle softening. We have shed some tension and frenzy with our woolen sweaters and winter coats. Days are longer and we are more willing to stop and visit, even if we know we should be on our way to somewhere else a little more quickly.

A dear friend of mine expressed a thought to starting his own business. I offered help. I have no idea if this business will go anywhere, but even if it doesn't, the concept has bred true inspiration. An artist friend has created such lovely designs and images for us, they take my breath away. Friends have connected me with such amazing people who could be just the bridge to true success. Will it come to pass? I don't know. It could. The pieces are there. But, again, even if it doesn't, I have been so blessed and awestruck by the journey. Those pieces have fallen into place with such ease and grace one feels a certain synchronicity.

The first step of any venture is intention in action. One can 'intend' to write a book, but it is only by putting words to paper that it will ever happen.

I am a writer, and my life is enhanced by the many writers (published and unpublished) I know. Their friendship, camaraderie, experience and talent enhance and inspire me everyday. But it was the first steps I took, the action, that brought those things to me. In my case, I joined Romance Writers of America and my own local chapter. What amazing things have come from that choice.

So what is your dream? I ask this, mainly, because it was the question I asked my friend, and he told me about his business idea. Such incredible things have come from that conversation.

It's summer. Dream. Dream big. Amazing things can happen. I guarantee it.

namaste...
